Moco Museum in Amsterdam have just released an Augmented Reality app for their museum. Here is a taster:
This is just a sample of what can be done via AR and tourism. It’s a value add for every prospective member of the public and adds so much more engagement than just walking around looking at exhibits.
These apps are not hard to make. The technical side can be somewhat cumbersome but we (obviously) think the cost is worth it.You can engage with audiences in new ways unthought of before. You can have exhibits come to life. Or play videos of the artist at work. Or have facts appearing around the exhibit. There is so much you can do with Augmented Reality in a museum setting that it’s a matter of whittling down what one should concentrate on first. By using Augmented Reality, the user is engaging and interacting with the museum rather than being a passive reciever. This makes it a much more memorable experience and a huge value add for the museum.
